| Description: | There is a need to ensure that safety performance of commuter rail is appropriately assessed and analyzed, and that the results are documented and communicated to commuter railroad providers, government, industry and other interested parties. To meet this need FTA, working cooperatively with the Federal Railroad Adminstration (FRA) has performed this study to: identify the most frequent, highest risk causes of commuter rail accidents; direct FTA and FRA oversight and technical resources to address these high risk causes; and accelerate industry awareness, promote identification and implementation of activities and practices that have potential to mitigate largest risks. |
